Hi, friends! Thanks for stopping by the site. I hope you’re finding it useful. I wanted to tell you a little about my background and my goal for the site so that you can feel comfortable using these resources in your church ministry or in your home.

Who is Steve?

I grew up going to church in a non-Christian home. My mother became a Christian when I was four and started taking my siblings and me to church. Unfortunately, she died from complications in treating her kidney cancer when I was eight. That left me and my two younger brothers and one younger sister to be raised by an atheist father. My mom valued her faith so strongly, however, that she made my dad promise to keep sending us to church after she died. He followed through on that promise, and her request and his faithfulness to her are one of the main reasons I’m a Christian today.

My mother inspired me in three ways before she died. First, she read Bible stories to me. That and the Sunday School class she took me to was my first introduction to God and His Son. Second, she rotated helping to teach Junior Church for the kids during the church service. She and my own teachers showed me how valuable it is for people to volunteer their time to teach young disciples. Third, she kept her faith throughout her illness, and if I can help others build and keep their faith through whatever life brings to them, I’ll be honoring her example.

I accepted Jesus into my life at age eight. At age 12, I was ready to be baptized. Shortly after that, I dedicated my life to God and felt a call to teach others about the God that I knew. I found that God had given me the gift of understanding Scripture and explaining the faith to others. I also found that I had a gift for writing.

I led school Bible study clubs throughout my public school education, played guitar and wrote music in a Christian band, and went to a Christian college to prepare for professional ministry.

At college, I developed doubts about my faith for the first time. Some of it was philosophical. I was frustrated that there were still questions I couldn’t answer about God and the Bible. I thought that if I was going to be a pastor, I should have everything figured out!

Some of my doubts, though, were more personal. Why did God take my mom? Why did my faith have to be such a barrier to connecting with my dad?

During this time of questioning, I disavowed my faith in God. But God is faithful. He never let me go. He simply waited for the right time to speak to me. And speak to me He did.

I’ve only heard God speaking to my heart a couple of times in my life. The first time was in a chapel service my sophomore year. I was still attending the Christian college, though I had switched my major to Business. Brennan Manning was speaking. He made the statement that God is like the sun. He said that just as you can’t look straight into the sun, so you can’t understand everything about God.

That was the exact statement I needed to hear, and I knew it. I prayed then for the first time in over a year. I said, “God, if this is what You want me to hear, I need to know that right now.” At that instant, everything around me faded away. It was as if I was alone in the room with God. He said, “I need to people to think about those things [meaning the questions I had], but don’t let that get in the way of our relationship. I just want to dance with you.”

That image of dancing with God is one I’ll never forget. It’s the idea of being completely in love with my Creator and Savior with no other distractions.

From that time on, I recommitted my life to God and haven’t looked back.

With my relationship with the Lord back on track, He blessed me with a relationship with my future wife. Mindy was a classmate of mine whom I had wanted to date, but she wouldn’t consider it until after I recommitted my life.

I graduated with a Business Administration degree and Mindy and I married.

A year later, God reminded me that I was supposed to be in ministry. I graduated from seminary in 2007 and started working as a full or part-time minister as the opportunities presented themselves.

Now, I’m focusing on my writing ministry.

This website is the fruit of many of my projects. You’ll see the resources that I used and continue to create for church and family ministry. You can also purchase all of my resources in Kindle or print formats . Besides Sunday School lessons, Bible studies, and devotions, you’ll also see my Christian fiction series, The Gifted.

I also invite you to check out Alpha/Omega: The Christian RPG video game. I created it to walk players through the major events of the Bible. Pre-teens, teenagers, and adults enjoy the storytelling and strategy of the retro gameplay.

Finally, you can hear my friends and me on the Faith and Friends internet radio program “Reconciling Grace.” We spend half an hour each week discussing various topics about living the Christian life.

Steve’s Goal for the Site

My goal for this site, as well as all of my projects, is to disciple others to a better understanding of the Christian faith. I think it’s important to do that with as few barriers as possible. That’s why money is never an issue for using the content that I write. As Jesus said, “Freely you have received, freely give.” So, what the Spirit teaches me, I make available for others to read. People can buy my resources in digital or print formats, but they’ll never have to. The secondary formats are simply to make using the resources easier.

In time, I plan to make this a go-to resource that covers the entire Bible for every age group and every purpose. I’m also going to recommend other free and paid resources that I believe you’ll find helpful. We’re all in this together, so when another writer or Christian company produces a quality resource that complements my own or one of the ministry areas that the site covers, I’ll share it with you.
